CBAM advisory & reporting for exporters
Your EU customer is asking for embedded-emissions data? EcoCheck experts take you from CN codes and plant data to the importer data pack — calculated under Regulation (EU) 2025/2547, with a verifier-ready file.
What is CBAM?
CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) is the EU rule that puts a carbon price on certain imports, matching what EU producers pay under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).
Since 1/1/2026 CBAM is in its definitive, paying phase: EU importers declare embedded emissions every year and buy certificates; the 2026 declaration is due by 30/9/2027. Vietnamese companies do not file it, but must give their customers the SEE of each product. Without verified actual data the importer has to use EU default values — usually higher, and more expensive.
Key dates
- 1/1/2026 — definitive period, 10 % mark-up
- 2/2027 — CBAM certificates on sale
- 30/9/2027 — declaration and surrender for 2026 imports
- 2027: 20 % mark-up · from 2028: 30 %
- Importers under 50 t/year are exempt

The challenges for Vietnamese exporters
Complex emissions reporting
Emissions must be split by process, CN code, precursor and electricity — unlike a regular inventory.
Easy to get wrong
A wrong unit, factor or CN code sends your customer back to costlier default values.
Data must be traceable
Importers and verifiers need the source, factor and evidence behind every number.
Little in-house experience
EU rules are new and keep changing; few companies have CBAM staff in-house.
Why use the EcoCheck CBAM service
- Exactly what EU importers need: SEE per CN code under Regulation (EU) 2025/2547, with a verifier file.
- Experts with you end to end: product scope, plant data, the customer data pack.
- The EcoCheck platform calculates, compares with EU defaults and exports the template when the customer asks.
- Every number traceable: factor, unit and evidence stored with the data.
- An edge in quotes: reliable actual data lowers your EU customer’s certificate bill versus default values.

Ask in ChatGPT or Claude: "CBAM cost of this 7208 39 00 shipment?", "build the CBAM data for my plant" — EcoCheck calculates with the official 2026 EU defaults.
FAQ
Do Vietnamese exporters file the CBAM declaration themselves?
No. The EU importer (authorised CBAM declarant) files the declaration and buys the certificates. The Vietnamese producer supplies the specific embedded emissions (SEE) of each product, calculated with the EU method and backed by a verifiable file. Better data means a lower CBAM bill for your customer.
What if we have no actual data?
The importer must use the EU default value plus a mark-up: 10 % in 2026, 20 % in 2027, 30 % from 2028. For many steel and aluminium products this is well above the plant’s actual figure, which is why EU buyers ask for actual data in quotes.
What does the EcoCheck CBAM service include?
CN code and scope check, plant data collection (fuels, power, processes, precursors), SEE calculation under Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/2547 on the EcoCheck platform, comparison with default values, expert review, importer data and the verifier file.
Can we reuse our Decree 06 inventory for CBAM?
Partly. EcoCheck imports Scope 1 fuel data from your inventory into CBAM without re-entry. CBAM also needs attribution per process and product, precursors and electricity — our experts work through that with you.
